Intro to Hand Placement

Hand surgeons are either orthopaedic or plastic surgeons by background and often work together to
deliver patient care. We have a team of 5 consultants. Expect to see a mix of trauma and elective
procedures in theatre.

Clinics run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You are encouraged to see and examine as many
patients as possible. The Hand MDT meeting is held on Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 am at the orthopaedics
and plastics offices. All the department is present and it’s an excellent learning opportunity (with free
coffee). This is located on the ground floor near orthotics (same floor as the Ground restaurant).
Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays are theatre days. Every other week the hand team will be at Rochdale
on Fridays. Make sure you ask about this during your first week. You are encouraged to scrub in
whenever possible and there will be opportunities to assist in various operations.

This placement will help you get an idea about the kind of work hand surgeons do. You will be exposed
to a wide range of patients of different ages and backgrounds.

At Manchester and Cheshire Hand Clinic, we take pride in our expertise as hand and wrist surgery.

We are dedicated to providing comprehensive care, offering competitive self-pay packages, and partnering with renowned health insurance providers.
